For some reason when I initially did a search for the site, the other entry didn't show...came up second time.

WOSAS Report When looking at OS Maps it is clear that this ruin is that which stands to the west of both the burn and railway embankment, and Corsehill House stood in an area to the east which is now under housing. That makes this site Old Corshill, or Reuincraig. I knew we'd covered this site before. http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?/topic/1474-corsehill-castle/page__p__19184__hl__corshill__fromsearch__1entry19184

MacGibbon & Ross give no drawings, and only a 3 line entry telling us that it was 'evidently on the L-plan', that it was drawn by Grose, and that it was of a very late date. From Canmore,

    It's in the Cardonnel thread.
  7. Nice one, there's many a council around the country who should hold their heads in shame.

Don't remember saying anything like that about the Stuarts, and wouldn't dare my wife is a Stewart! LOL I did though make a comment about too many Robertsons at some point, which was a private joke. I did say that about the Stuarts, which was a direct quote from the cover of a book I reviewed.

Your medieval site sounds intriging, might help solve a puzzle on the early sites, especially with dating evidence. Neither a fan or otherwise of Charles Edward, I'll need to check back and see what I said! LOL Which thread was it in? If it was my comment at the begining of this one, quite simply it's true, they were prolific in fathering illegitimate children.

You might find some useful stuff here Gordon's Links and here Our list of worthwhile reading it's a wee while since I added to my books list, that's why its near the bottom of the pile, but I've read an awful lot more than whats there!

Can't find anything on it I'm afraid, my book on Renfrewshire was written too early, and my lanarkshire stuff doesn't quite reach far enough!

Will see what I can find out regarding the coins. Your military badge sounds like the Medical Corps., Think of old apothecary signs with the snake round the pole and you'll get what I mean. The other possibility is that it's Polish. many of the Polish Army units in the area during the war were used to man the AA stations. My money is on the Medical Corps. You might find that Mearns Hospital was used for military purposes during the war, not certain on that one.

They can be, it depends on the regiment. When WW2 broke out, the army was still using a lot of WW1 issue, particularly in weapons, using WW1 rifles against german tommy guns...no contest.

Use photoeditor to reduce pic size, should be no prob to load up then. If it's for the Busby motte, stick it in with the Carmunnock post. I know that sunset well, I was brought up in Stepps, and learned to fish in Hogganfield.
