Great story and photos - thanks for sharing!
  2. An excellent idea to check them out first. Many have some interesting personalities and can be more in the maintanence catagory than you may want. More like children some of them with a love for attention. So did you ever make that move to TN? Been so long, haven't had a chance to catch up any. Angora goats and bunnies are also grand farm type pets with some wonderful wool to spin.... Galla
  3. Actually not all Alpacas are expensive. There are many farms around here and others that have them reasonably priced - just depends on the breeder. May just look at going to one of the farmers auctions for stock to start. Best prices. Alpacas are great animals and similiar to their larger counterparts - Llamas, they do not like coyotes and will help to keep them away from your livestock. Great watch"dogs" too. Spinning is a very easy past time to acquire and you can begin with very simple and inexpensive supplies. I have a friend that has a few and I often get a chance to visit. I can also ship you some of the fiber if you would like. Great stuff to play with, but may be easier to learn on shetland wool first. Best of luck! Galla
  4. Got to admit...great idea someone has there. At least it will help get some sturctures the maintanence they need - if they are responsible about their profits that is...

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Thinking it looked much better with a village below it!

Never realized that it had been that run down (at least looks like it from the print). Guess most of the pics I had seen were after restoration. And to Laureens' comment earlier, guess they had problems with mold and flooding from the looks of it...

I was just about to ask that also! Figure it has to be water, especially with the lack of protection to the environmental factors.
  8. LOL Poor Gordon. Just have to move to an area with lower IQ's - worked great for us! :evil laugh:

...in drag... Well hey, you figure it gets darker the deeper you go (keep your minds on track here...) and it would be hard to figure out just what you were procreating with at certain depths. Either that or a strong case for evolutionary changes.....
  10. Very impressive project - thanks for sharing! Great to hear they are actually working to restore it authentically as much as possible. Besides - that far North, who needs AC?! Not like there is much humidity or heat!
  11. Sounds like a huge job! Must say, I think at that point I would go out and pick up another one - already put together... Best of luck on the project!

Thanks for sharing the great pics Paul!
  13. Alright, a bit behind, but amen to that one Meg! I bought a sticker for my husband some time ago that reads: "Driver carries no cash, he is married!" Update though -William is finally is on a paid fire department and had his first promotion to Captain this past week (something like his second shift there) At least now I get a radio to keep in touch, as he is never home!
