Looms - what is best?

Meg's favorite in a large table loom is a Medico by LeClerc, also theres one thet the beater seems to us to be rather weak. She knows where the info is at sorry.

On your larger floor loom are you going for a high castle or a low one and how many harnessess?

Getting you first loom can be a difficult decision, as there is much confusion on how you will be using it. Later when you have more time with your loom regardless of which one you choose. There maybe other preference you may have a need for much later. (Sectional Warp, Different Reeds, Jack or Counter Balance, Double beam, Flying Shuttle to name a few)

How many dents per reed will be important later. For now that can be altered to fit the pattern you are using (such as threading 2 per dent or putting 1 in every other dent).

Most of the fine stuff you spin can be used for weaving, however you may not want to use it for warp, because of the fuzz or thinness.

I wish I could offer you some help, but I am afraid I make more questions.

LOL I do appreciate your wisdom and knowledge in this. Any help is appreciated. I believe I may go ahead with the Norwood 50" 4H loom, as it will give me the widths that I am wanting. As for blankets, simple ones will be good to start with. I believe the Norwood loom is a low one too. Have those pics somewhere. As for the rest, still learning all of the terminology and importance of each, so will have better knowledge on those ones as time progresses. Just figured it would be good to keep me busy and perhaps even make a bit of profit from time to time. More than likely will all be gifts for the first few years...

Thanks so much to you both! :claps28:

Figured you would be asking, so will drop a quick line before the kids have to get up. I found a guy locally that was selling two 1960's (I believe) - 45" Hammett looms. Didn't know much about them, so a friend picked me up and took me out. They are both the same, higher castle I believe (they are still in the storage unit until I can make space here for them - looking at next week), 4 harness w/ treadle, one looks to be almost brand new, the other needs a bit of TLC, but won't be expensive to fix. No rust or serious damage. He actually threw the second one in for the same price just to get rid of it and figured it would just be for parts. Both ran me $350 total. Not bad!

The other I am working on in ebay is for a 25" table loom that breaks down for travelling. Good to have for smaller projects. Believe it may be a four harness as well, or was thinking I could convert it. Forget which.

Been rolling around the idea of opening a Fiber shop that is totally different than any other around. Figure at least these would be good for classes and the like. Hope to eventually have some other larger looms, along with some tables also and rent usage or use for the class thing. Handmade items are pretty big around here. Unfortunately everything fiber around here has become yuppified. :P

Catch everyone around soon. Have some other material I am needing to get up on the boards too. Try and make more time this week.
