April 7, 200521 yr Admin Etymology: Middle English yarowe, from Old English gearwe.a widely naturalized strong-scented Eurasian composite herb (Achillea millefolium) with finely dissected leaves and small usually white corymbose flowers. Used to deaden topically and widely used as a tooth ache medicine for thousands of years. The root is used to numb an area before suturing a wound or before surgery andit will help to stem and coagulate the blood flow as well. For tooth ache find and clean the root, then scrape it with a blade or lightly mash it and place on the tooth or area of the pain. If you use too much you will drool everywhere as it deadens the whole side of your face. To use the root in a poultice with Propolis for a wound, first gather the root and clean it, its small so many plants might have to be used depending on the size of the wound, pulverize the root and add the Propolis then bind the mixture to the wound it self. Used on ancient battle fields since time immortal. As with all herbs do not use unless familiar with the plant and other medical conditions.
April 8, 200521 yr Nice post with some good info. Biggie there though, with any medicinal herbalism, it is best to purchase the herbs than to gather them naturally if you are not sure of what you are doing. Many plants look alike and while some will help immensley, some will kill you quickly. For toothaches, I usually stick to clove oil. Kills the pain and relatively harmless. Just rub a dab on the pain area. Easy to carry and cheap to boot.
April 8, 200521 yr Author Admin As soon as it comes up I'll post a few images of the plant fresh and dried.Clove oil does work well.
April 11, 200521 yr Bought myself some "tooth-gel" which contains clove oil (lazy me, couldn't be bothered with all that cooking lark, I needed pain relief FAST) and a local anaesthetic called Benzocaine. My first application ended up in the wrong place, just caught it on the gum as I aimed for the offending tooth.Boy, was it fast working !!! It did cause me to drool a bit, which made Liz laugh :D AHHHH !!!! To be pain free was bliss.
April 12, 200521 yr Author Admin I wish you quick and painless recovery, just watch out for the dentist they love to inflict pain.
June 17, 200520 yr OK...not sure where to post this....I seem to remember a similiar post but can't find it...feel free to repost where it belongs... Galla, Meg or Dunc....got any info on controlling asthma without albuterol or steroids? I ending up taking a nice little ride by to the hospital yesterday for an attack. I was reminded why I HATE taking meds when I woke up with a massive IV steroid and breathing treatment overdose (like 6 treatments before I could leave) hangover this morning. I need something else besides this crap.
June 17, 200520 yr Well, that is sounding a bit more severe than I had hoped. Coffee or caffiene will often times help with asmatic attacks, Mint or peppermint does help to open the airways as well. If drinking doesn't do the trick, try steaming over a bowl with a towel. With all of my books, etc still packed, hard for me to help much. I am better with remembering just which book contains which information I am looking for. Saves space in the hard drive if ya get me....
June 17, 200520 yr Admin First off I would like to say that I am very Happy you are feeling better and got to leave the Hospital. I lost a very special and dear friend to asthma it is not something that you play with or pretend that you do not have enough money for the treatments, it could be your last choice in life. Now having said all of that there is a tea called breathe easy that helps it has Ma Huang which contains Ephedrines that helps to open the air passages. You can also make a tea of the yarrow flowers and drink it for opening the air ways. But by all means please be very, very careful unless you know that you will not have an allergic reaction to these ingredients and trigger another attack. Hope you are feeling better.
June 17, 200520 yr Author Admin Glad you're feeling better!! Take care of your self will you?!? So get well!!
June 17, 200520 yr thanks guys...I did get my scripts filled today...I am hoping to get through this episode than try to control it naturally as long as possible. I have such an amazing drug induced hangover today I can't see straight. It is far worse than anything I ever encountered in my college days! LOL Thanks for the advice too...I have seen that tea at Whole Foods market....I'll pick some up. Meg...sorry about your friend....thank goodness for Chucks coworkers...the Paramedics....they threw me in the ambulance and wouldnt take NO for an answer....the brought my butt to the hospital with an IV, cardiac monitor and breathing treatment...they did everything they could possibly do for me...including drawing tubes of blood....so the hospital wouldnt have to do it....and they aren't going to charge me....perk of the fire dept.....
