For projects and we have raised some flax to use but not this year. In Missouri I'm sure you've notice it along side the roads growing wild.

 

I don't think we have any thing around here just for show, it all works for its living in one fashion or another. :)

Great to hear! Pieces from history were meant to be used! Some may just need a tune up.

 

As for the lost and homeless haven, we tend to swing that way also. My mother often teases me and attributes William to that. LOL Poor guy...so he was a bit lost when I found him. Doing much better these days. :D

I had forgotten about the other loom pictures. Still looking for the title on that book. Saw it on ebay, will get the isbn for it when I find it again. I enjoy giving handmade gifts to friends and family, and figured those would be good to start with. Have some spinning cotton around here somewhere too. Probably still packed.

 

So guess I am going with the Norwood for the larger loom, and still looking into a smaller one. We have a new fiber store here in town that specializes in weaving and spinning, so will be nice to go in and get some help with starting out. Probably will buy a smaller loom there. Still have to see which one I want.

By tradition alot of the spinning/weaving shops and local guilds will rent out the equipment for a small monthly fee. I rented a small Norwood folding loom for several months when I was trying to make up my mind. It help to get the feel of the loom. If you have a shop nearby set at the loom and see if it fits you. When I ordered my loom I had the legs extended for my comfort. It is a very hard decision for the first one.

Yes, we have a very good weaving shop here that sells many of the supplies needed. I have worked a bit with the smaller looms in the store, but I believe the larges available they have (set up) is something like a 22"w, 4H. Will be doing some searching later on the model you suggested and see what pops up.

 

The book was on various types of tea towels. Haven't had a chance to find it again, perhaps tonight I will be able to get online and find it. Getting ready to head out and do a fiber arts demo at the library in West Plains today. Need to get out of here before too long so I can get everything together and out there before it is too hot.

In my opinion again, I like a larger floor loom because if you need the width, a back beam, or 8 to 64 harnesses you have them and you can always thread only what heddles you need.

 

A word of caution, I've seen Meg go slightly nuts threading harnesses, I believe it can be best described as stir crazy

I was figuring that just warping the loom would take the greatest amount of time to accomplish. Hoping that is something that gets better with time. I used to work quite avidly with a small inkle loom for various projects, and noticed that after a bit of time my speed in warping and weaving increased, as did my skills using the loom.
