November 16, 200718 yr Author An old postcard of an even older engraving showing Cromwell's Castle (centre, right, and marked as "6, Oliver's Castle"), recently purchased. The engraving was used as an illustration (Plate V) in the Islands of Scilly by William Borlase, published 1756. My thanks to Amanda Martin from the Isles of Scilly Museum for providing this information.
December 20, 20187 yr Author I recently purchased a woodblock print that was printed in The Illustrated London News, 15th August 1891. Part of that was an image of Cromwell's Castle, and the image is shown below.
December 29, 20187 yr Author I came across this image of Cromwell's Castle (and Star Castle), now residing in my collection.
January 9, 20197 yr Author I have managed to purchase a copy of the book that the 1756 print was taken from (see post #13). A wonderful addition to my collection of books, and prints. The book is called "Observations on the Ancient and Present State of the Islands of Scilly, and their Importance to the Trade of Great Britain. In a Letter to the Reverend Charles Lyttelton, LL.D. Dean of Exeter, and F.R.S."
November 19, 20205 yr Author An aerial view of the castle. From www.english-heritage.org.uk I think it's a lovely view.
January 11, 20215 yr Author A view of Cromwell's Castle, from one of the windows of King Charles's Castle. NOT one of my own, but I wish I'd thought of trying it this way.
