Postcards of Bucks' Prints

Featured Replies

Given that I am unlikely to ever earn enough to collect a full set of the castle views by the Buck Brothers (or find sufficient space to hang them if I could collect them), some while back I wondered whether any of these had been produced in postcard form.

You will have seen from various posts, that I found a few - the most notable find being the one of Alnwick Castle.

However, despite searching numerous sources and making many enquiries, I have come up with nothing.

BUT, .........

thinking laterally, I wondered whether I could find someone who would print postcards with them on for me.

While this is perhaps considered cheating, I went ahead anyway, and sourced a printer. My source printed ten of my choice - but the images had to be of a certain size, and quality. Most of the images I've found and had placed on CD are not large enough, or of sufficient quality to reproduce in postcard form (4in x 6in), but a few are.

These ten postcards are unique, but probably of no real value - at least, for now. However, they will make a rather interesting addition to my collection of modern postcards. Whatever their value, I LIKE THEM.

An inventive solution, similarly I have printed off some of my favourite images on postcard size photo paper, again the quality depends on the image size.

Why not do it yourself, you can buy blank postcards at any good stationer, and you should be able to adjust your printer to take the size of the card, just put in one sheet at a time otherwise it jams up due to the thickness of the card.

My printer is not of sufficient quality to do this - or rather, I need to buy a photo quality ink cartridge. I'm only going to get a few done, since most of the images I've saved over the years, are not of sufficient quality to print as 6x4in cards. The images of the prints auctioned by "Panteek" on e-bay are perfect, so, while I cannot buy their prints, I can at least download their images to print as postcards.

Just sent through a second order for a further 10 Bucks' prints postcards. Got enough suitable images for at least one more order, and possibly a fourth too, at a later date.

Got my second batch today - Winchelsea, Wigmore, Ravensworth (Durham), Kirkoswald,

Horton, Harlsey, Conisborough, Brampton Bryan, Bothal and Belsay.

These will go along with the first batch - Canterbury, Cooling, Dover (N), Dover (W), Rochester (SE), Bamburgh, Norham, Dunstanburgh, Tynemouth and Warkworth.

As an aside, I prepared a commemorative scroll for the wedding on friday, which featured the MacG & R drawings of Fernie Castle. Printed it on Gold parchment paper with black ink, very impressed with results, worth a try for anyone who wants a nice print on their wall.

Are your postcards as good as you expected?

Given that they were images taken from e-bay, they are really good. OK, so they're not antique, or even worth much really, but I like them. They are obviously no substitute for the real thing, but there's no way I'm going to be able to afford them all (or have space for them all even if I COULD afford them), so they are an interesting addition to my collection.
