K5 and CUCV Body swap

Featured Replies

This will be the topic for the body swap on my truck.

The body on my Blazer is rusting off the frame and is in need of a transplant.

I have done several body swaps but never one for my vehicles.

It may likely feel like insainity at some time during the labor but it does have to be done. :P

My truck as it was a few years ago before a major amount of rust set in.

and the donor body a 1986 M 1009 military Blazer body or whats left of it!

I acquired it through Sir Mech, who got it from a guy, who got it from the Air Force at Tinker AFB through the auctions

I'm not sure if this will be done in my drive way, in Sir Mechs or some ones elses work place.

I'll try hard to go into great detail and bore you guys as much as possible :laughlong.gif:

I hope this is coming cheap, full cost might sounds like it be more than a new truck!

A new truck is in the realm of over 70,000 and is close to a used militay hummwv, no thanks.

A new truck couldn't compare to mine in many ways and so far even after buying all most everything needed its been under $ 700.

wow...and I thought I was cool because I figured out how to do a rear brake job on a 1985 mustang myself...

You've got an '85 mustang? I had a friend with a mustang, he got about 10mpg, had to sell it, couldn't afford to put fuel in it. Some car though, really shifted, but not very handy for carrying the old fishing rods!

no...used to have an '85 mustang...my first car I ever owned....had to sell it to buy something to haul photo gear. I used to work on my car as much as possible..I have replaced brakes, water pumps, belts etc on that thing...I was too poor to pay a mechanic. I would go to the auto parts store...ask the guy behind the counter what I needed...he'd tell me and try not to laugh...I'd go to the library and copy the chilton manual....then I'd sit in my Dad's garage trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. Took me forever but I always got done. The rear break job took me 6 hours...not exaclty efficient.

It can take that long on any car when you do it at home without mechanics garage tools. Depends how seized up the bolts are. First time I did it I snapped two wheel irons trying to loosen the bolts. Longer they're in tighter they get. Invested in a proper wheel key after that, no problem now.

well now I do go to a mechanic...I hated working on my car. I don't mind it so much if I have someone to work on it with...but I much prefer to drop it off at the garage and let someone else do it.

To be honest I have to now, these new fangled engines with on board computer sensoring mean you are almost forced to go to the dealer, which meant when I took the alfa in for it's annual service I was skinned for £250, with no extra work required. Wish I could DIY it, it'd put the crooks out of business.

my mustang used to have computer chip issues....had to have the module replaced on a regular basis
