May 9, 200818 yr Great stuff, another valuable resource on-line. I need to find time to read through it.
September 2, 201015 yr The Cathcart one looks similar to the drawings by MacGibbon & Ross, The Crookston one must be pre-restoration in Victorian times, but seems far from being 'anatomically' correct. With the tower to the left like that, the door should be on the 'vaulted'wall , the vaulting is running in the wrong direction, and seems to sit at second floor level, which could correspond with the ceiling of the hall, but ignores the vaulted basement, and the floor of the great hall, I could go on....but.If they are in Glasgow they will be in the Mitchell Library. Having spent quite a bit of time in there, and they do have a collection of old images ( particularly photographic) which they will copy for you at a cost, I can't recall seeing either of these...they might be in store. i had the pleasure of capping off the remains of Cathcart castle after the council , employed a contracter to take 3 foot from the top , result he made a mistake and left 3 foot all round i was employed for a year on that site making it weather sound , if you walk from old mill at cart up through the wood towards castle in winter you can see clearly the tunnel from castle to old mill

Wee Tam an I we did oor best, to capp her off that was our test, for a year I dragged her bit by bit from the cart belowRebuilding foundations to double what their plans will show Six foot now in her glory Shame on them that made me pen this story. Unedited lament to Cathcart Castle , from the book “WEE tam the Bricky “

September 10, 201015 yr Nice one, there's many a council around the country who should hold their heads in shame. yes gordon this crime is attributed to pat lally ( lazarus ) and crew who conspired to destroy our heritage, ironic realy as hes the lord provost who captivated interest in the smiley face sign for glasgow who incidently stayed a stones throw from the castle the reasons behind the crime were that some local youths had decided to vault the ten foot fence and ignore all the DANGER signs get drunk or whatever subsequently injure themselves , and as lally was living in the area at the time he would get the ball rolling so that either the youths could drink in an area that wouldnt injure themselves , or that the castle would be gone therefor not spoiling his view over the city, i feel his tenure over the city of glasgow has still to be fully written and recorded, (he can fool some of the people some of the time but , he cant fool all of the people all of the time ) no truer a phrase can be attributed to this sorry episode in Cathcarts Castles history, as time goes on!
