From the BBC Website, 14th February 2005 Cultural quarter for ancient town Plans to develop a cultural quarter around a historic castle are being unveiled in Pontefract on Tuesday. The town's castle, where Richard II was jailed in 1399, was once one of the most impressive in England before it reduced to rubble during the Civil War. Council chiefs want to make better use of the castle and its little known siege works as well as All Saints Church and St John's Priory. A spokesman said he hoped residents would have their say about the plans. From the BBC News Website, 4th November 2004 Castle tower undergoes renovation Visitors to Leeds Castle in Kent have been told they will not be affected by a £250,000 regeneration project spanning the next four months. The Maiden's Tower at the castle, near Maidstone, dates back to the 16th Century and is having its roof repaired and other major structural work. Until a few years ago, it had been used as a home by the castle's last private owner, Susan Remington-Hobbs. Castle spokesman Derek Horton said the work would preserve the building. From the BBC Website, 20th November 2004 Parts of historic castle closed Parts of Lancaster Castle have been temporarily closed in the interest of public safety. Small fractures were discovered in high-level masonry in the Shire Hall terrace, which houses the castle's display of heraldic shields. The closure is not expected to affect tours of the castle, while repairs are carried out. The castle, which also houses a Category C training prison and court, dates back to Roman times. East Herts Council's community scrutiny committee has approved the recommendations for the venue in The Wash and the executive will make the final decision at their meeting on Tuesday (April 21), which starts at 7.30pm in Wallfields, Hertford. Im looking for some pic's of Bodiams gatehouse and entryway - Particularly the portculis and stonework surrounding it. I like the way its done at Bodiam and have pretty much decided to model mine after it. I have a couple pics aleady so I don't need the ordinary frontal shot.

Bellister Castle - Ordnance Survey Map Reference NY 701630 Bellister Castle is an L-shaped 13th century bastle tower in the county of Northumberland, which stands on an oval motte 5m high, the summit measuring 46m by 31m. It lies close to the South Tyne River, and was once surrounded by a moat 2m deep. The tower was built from Roman stone and had a barrel vaulted basement. I really couldn't believe that it has taken me so long to post a thread on Hastings Castle. Attached is a copy of a print recently purchased, from 1893. The castle hasn't changed much since then, and I went there last year. I ought to get some of my photos posted here, although it will not be hard for any reader to find images of Hastings Castle on the internet.
